Relay For Life 24-hour event

Relay for Life is a festive and inspiring family event during which the international community in Belgium and the community of Waterloo stand in solidarity with those touched by cancer.

Throughout 24 hours, members of each team and visitors will take turns walking or running around the track.

Together, they

• CELEBRATE the lives of cancer survivors (Saturday at 14:00),
• REMEMBER loved ones lost to the disease (Saturday at 23:00), and 
• FIGHT BACK by raising awareness and funds Sunday at 13:30).

Relay for Life has great events for adults and children alike. Many teams form booths with food, drinks, and arts and crafts activities. We have booked a bouncy castle, and sumo pit. There will be live music throughout the Relay, as well as Zumba, salsa class, and lots more besides! Survivors of cancer have a special lounge in which they can talk, eat, have a massage, or otherwise relax. 

At 11:00pm, there is a very moving ceremony known as Luminaria, in which the music is turned off, the lights are dimmed, and participants walk a "silent lap," with the track illuminated only by candles in bags that have been decorated in memory of those who have battled or are still battling cancer.
